The newcomers and surprise team of 2008, SugarRays showed up at Pugu Hills in 2009 with an even stronger team with 25 players, including very fit young men and the best female player of 2009, Magge (see photograph).
They completed their 5 matches unbeaten.
The rest of the teams did not only have to fight an uphill battle against the superior site of the SugarRays but also see how to get through the hottest day of the season.
The incredible Blue Coconuts (former Blue Mango, Clear Channel etc.) again managed to struggle through into the final, where they eventually fell against the SugarRays. Their "rugby" fighting spirit to compensate for ever stiffer joints and ligements, helped them also this year to leave much younger teams behind!
Many more strong female players participated in 2009, perhaps next year we should try a female Bamboo Cup tournament with a maximum of one male in the team.
